Live throwing demo with Kazu Oba

On January 18th from 10-noon

on sale here on Thursday, Dec 19th at 5pm

Kazu Oba is a sculptor and potter based in Colorado. Kazu has studied under pottery masters in both the United States and Japan, where he was born. His work, Obaware, has been used in restaurants all around the country including Sushi Den, Bruto, and the Wolf’s Tailor in Denver. At city mud, Kazu will be live throwing forms on the wheel and discussing aspects of his ceramic process such as throwing off of the hump and salt firing. There will also be a Q & A part of the event which we encourage folks to think about ahead of the event. We are so excited to have him here! To see more of Kazu’s work head to https://www.obaware.com

The event will cost $25

Give it a try nights

Our give it a try nights are a chance for people who are interested in learning how to throw on the wheel to try it out. Because learning to throw takes time, students shouldn’t expect to leave this class having made a beautiful pot, but they should expect to leave with a basic understanding of the steps involved in throwing on the potters wheel, as well as an idea of if its something they would like to take a longer class learning!

The classes are on Friday nights from 6-8:30pm, and dates are announced for the classes on our instagram towards the end of each month. We typically run two give it a try nights per month.

Our give it a try nights cost $80/person.

If a student decides to keep a pot they made at the event they are welcome to do so for an additional $10, and we will glaze and fire it for them! (this cost we don’t include in the class as not everyone has a pot they’d like to keep)

please note that these classes are non-refundable so make sure you can make it!

Workshops

We hold workshops at the studio every few months! What we offer is always changing, but a few of our past favorites were our flower arranging and vase making workshop with The Story of Flowers, our artist talk and handbuilding workshop with Kelly Cox, and our surface decoration workshop with Erica Passage.

Check back here to hear about upcoming ones as they roll in!
