intro to wheel throwing classes

This summer we will teach 8 week long beginner throwing classes where students will learn the basics of throwing on the potters wheel. Our classes are 3 hours long, once per week, with 10 students per class.

In addition to the class, students will have unlimited open studio time where they can practice what they’re learning on their own time. Open studio hours are available to students whenever another class or event is not in session (the studio is open 24/7!).

Classes are $395 for 8 weeks.

Included with the class is all clay, tools, and 8 included bisque and glaze firings. Additional firings can be purchase for 3c per cubic inch, typically $1-2 per firing for a mug.

beginner two classes

In our beginner two throwing classes, we teach students how to throw new forms on the wheel each week, and support them as they continue to work through the fundamentals. Think jars, bigger bowls, coffee pour overs, plates, etc. This class is a multi-level course for anyone beyond beginner.

We offer spots to current city mud students first for this course, and taking one of our intro classes is typically the best way to secure a spot in our Beginner 2 classes. While the Monday evening Beginner 2 class is sold out for the summer session, there will be spots for our Tuesday morning Beginner 2 available at the public onsale!

Classes are $395 and include unlimited hours of open studio time outside of other classes (the studio is open 24/7!) Classes also include a 25lb bag of Rocky Mountain Clay’s BMX, unlimited reclaim, and 8 pieces bisque & glaze fired, with additional firings available for 3c per cubic inch.

Classes run for 8 weeks with one 3 hour class per week.

handbuilding: finding your creative voice

Tuesdays, 6-9pm

In this class, our handbuilding teacher Lean will help you use various handbuilding techniques to create pieces that reflect your personal style. Your interests, inspirations, and personal stories will be reflected in your pieces. Some basic handbuilding experience (formal or informal) is recommended.

This class will come with a 25lb bag of any one of the city mud clay bodies, unlimited reclaimed clay, unlimited open studio hours (outside of class times) and 8 pieces bisque and glaze fired (additional pieces available for purchase at 3c per cubic inch). Classes will run for 8 weeks on Tuesdays from 6-9pm. The cost of the class is $395.

intermediate wheel: thrown and altered

Sundays, 4-7pm

This class is for more advanced students who have taken multiple wheel class sessions. If you have taken our beginner 2 class or a level 2 class at another studio, this might be a good fit! In the class students will be challenged by throwing new forms and working on technical skills like throwing larger and taller. In addition to this, Jeanette will lead students through altering thrown forms to create unique forms. Using additive techniques, darting, and paddling students will learn how to transform their pieces off of the wheel. This class will be a great way to blend both handbuilding and throwing techniques. Put the two together and there is nothing you can’t do!

This class will come with a 25lb bag of any one of the city mud clay bodies, unlimited reclaim, unlimited open studio hours (outside of class times) and 8 pieces bisque and glaze fired (additional pieces available for purchase at 3c per cubic inch).

Classes will run for 8 weeks on Sundays from 4-7pm. The cost of this class is $395

one time classes & workshops

Each month we offer one time throwing classes for folks who are interested in giving throwing on the wheel a shot but aren’t quite ready to commit to a 6 week class!

Additionally, we have one time events at the studio every few months where students can learn a more specialized skill.

Learn more about both of those on our events page!
